Asking the Right Questions

Remember when you started looking for that first job and began getting calls for interviews? One of the things you are taught is that even though the potential employer will be asking questions,  it’s important for you, the interviewee, to ask questions too. There are many times in life where that same advice comes in handy, when you’re looking for a daycare for your children or finding a family doctor.

Asking the right questions is just as important when you’re looking for someone to come into your home and care for your loved one. One of the things we do at Piedmont HomeHeath is set up an interview with each potential client to get all the pertinent information, including the types of medication, recent health evaluations and even what types of food the person likes. But just because we’re asking a lot of questions doesn’t mean we should be the only ones asking. This is the time for you to learn more about our services, what types of things we can offer and even how our staff is trained.

Here are a few questions that are recommended by the AARP to ask when choosing in-home health care:

 Is this organization licensed by the state?
 Are you inspected by an outside organization, and when was the last inspection?
 How do you select employees?
 What training is required of your staff?
 Will the same caregiver be coming to our home, or does it rotate?
 What type of communication can I expect from the caregiver, and how often?
 What procedures do you have in place to handle emergencies?

Many questions that are suggested by the AARP are already answered with the information provided on our website, including the types of services we provide. But we are always glad to talk about those services more in-depth, and truly enjoy getting to know our clients.

It is also important to ask about how long a home-care agency has been in operation. We have been in business over 40 years, which helps in building long-term relationships in the community. And we are family owned, but also treat our staff like family. So you can trust that the people we choose to work with Piedmont Home Health are friendly, intelligent and hard working. But most of all, we care about you and your loved ones, and making sure that everyone is safe and happy.

If you’re thinking about having someone come into your home to provide care, feel free to give us a call anytime at (336) 724-1197. We’re always here to answer questions and ease concerns.
